Clarissa Dixon

Current project I am working on with Discover Creative as part of YEI. I have been working on abstracted paintings using photographs taken around Hull; focusing on texture, pattern and small details around the city. I have been taking photographs over several weeks as I am walking around the city: textures and patterns on pavements and buildings as they have become worn and damaged over time, items that have been abandoned and left on the street, the building work and changes within the city centre. I isolate parts of the photographs, picking out patterns, shapes, and colours then enlarging, simplifying or exaggerating them. I have used a similar process to this in the past so it was interesting to revisit this especially as there are many changes going on in the city, with the building work and improvements to the city centre as well as City of Culture events.
